From golf and parks to theaters and dining, Myrtle Beach has something for everyone who loves the coast.
Thinking about moving to Myrtle Beach? If you’ve ever considered relocating, Myrtle Beach should be at the top of your list. I want to share five reasons why I think it’s a great place to call home, plus a bonus tip to help you figure out which area might suit you best.
1. Lower cost of living. The cost of living here along the Grand Strand is about 8% lower than the national average. Housing is still much more reasonable compared to other parts of the country, and property taxes are noticeably lower, which is a huge factor for a lot of people moving here. On top of that, for retirees, Social Security isn’t taxed in South Carolina, which really adds to the overall affordability.
2. Lifestyle perks. The beach is always nearby, and the vibe is relaxed, which is something you really notice when you spend time here. Outdoor activities are plentiful, and because winters are mild, you can enjoy them year-round. From golfing and visiting parks to having easy access to the beach, there’s no shortage of ways to get outside and stay active.
3. A mix of neighborhoods. You can find HOA communities, which work well for some, or non-HOA areas with bigger lots if you prefer more space and privacy. There are newer developments and older, more established neighborhoods, so you have plenty of options depending on what kind of environment you’re looking for.
Myrtle Beach offers affordability, lifestyle perks, and ocean access.
4. Dining scene. If, like me, you don’t cook much at home, you’ll love the dining options here. Myrtle Beach’s restaurant scene is booming, and there are so many choices to fit every taste. Eating out is easy, fun, and practically endless, which makes it one of the city’s biggest perks for food lovers.
5. Entertainment and arts. The city’s arts and entertainment options are growing fast. From theaters to local events, there’s always something happening to keep you entertained. It’s a great way to get involved in the community and explore what the area has to offer beyond the beach.
Bonus tip: tranquil vs. bustling areas. One thing I’d suggest thinking about if you’re moving here is what kind of environment you want. If you prefer a quieter, more peaceful setting, you’ll likely enjoy areas further inland like Aynor, Longs, or even Loris, which offer bigger lots and no HOA restrictions. On the other hand, being closer to the beach means more activity and a denser community vibe.
Myrtle Beach has a lot to offer, whether you’re drawn by affordability, lifestyle, or just the chance to be near the ocean.
